[Wyckaert, Maurice]. Maurice Wyckaert. Essen: Galerie Van de Loo, October 1960. 1 p.; ill.; 42 x 24 cm. (folded); black and red ink on thick white stock.

Invitation to the opening of the Maurice Wyckaert exhibition at the Galerie Van de Loo in Essen on 20 October 1960, as well as to the conference held by architect (and Situationist member) Attila Kotanyi on the same day. Text in german.

Wyckaert is best known for having been chosen to read the Declaration in the Name of the Fourth SI Conference to the Institute of Contemporary Arts, at the Institute of Contemporary Arts on 28 September 1960. “Wyckaert was also the founder of Flemish literary magazine Kunst Meridiaan, which ran from 1951 to 1960. In 1955 De Meridiaan founded Galerie Taptoe, an artistic centrum, exhibition room and literary café in Brussels” (Wikipedia).

Often viewed as a relatively “minor” figure in the SI, Wyckaert’s works and contributions were brought to light in Gérard Berréby & Danielle Orhan (éds), L’Œuvre peint (1947-1996). Paris: Allia, 2012.

Bulletin critique des publications préhistoriques Volume VIII – Numéro 1 – 1966 [1966]

[Internationale Situationniste] Bulletin critique des publications préhistoriques Volume VIII – Numéro 1 – 1966 [wrappers]. Internationale Situationniste – Revue de la Section Francaise de l’I.S., Numero 10 [title page]. Paris: Internationale Situationniste, March 1966. 83 p.; 24.5 x 16 cm; white wrappers with text in black.

Tenth issue of Internationale Situationniste. This was one of only two issues (the other being no.10) to have some copies bound in plain wrappers instead of the typical glossy, SI-branded wrappers.

Shall we read into this substitution a clever form of detournement? Was this a way for the S.I. to mock its own “flashy” wrappers? Evidence points to a much more pragmatic reasons: such precautions were taken to facilitate clandestine distribution in countries where the S.I.’s subversive political writings may have elicited an undue amount of interest from the authorities. Specifically, the articles “Adresse aux revolutionnaires  d’Algerie et de tous les pays” and “les luttes de classes en Algerie” would likely have proven problematic in Algeria

We do not locate any copies on OCLC.

Guy Debord…cherche agent litteraire [1991]

DEBORD, Guy. Guy Debord, pour ses prochains livres…in L’Événement du Jeudi no. 329. 1 p. [in 130 p. magazine); ill; 21 x 32 cm.; ill. cover with photograph of Saddam Hussein.

Following his falling out with Gerard Lebovici’s heirs, Guy Debord is looking for a new publisher. He publishes a classified ad in the British Times as well as in French weekly  L’Événement du Jeudi in February 1991. The anecdote goes that Sollers, upon seeing Debord’s ad, sends the writer a blank sheet of paper on Gallimard — blank, that is, save for a giant question mark. By Spring, Debord meets and befriends Jean-Jacques Pauvert. The following year, in May 1992, Debord signs an official contract with the leading French publishing house.

DEBORD, Guy (Ed. Guy, Emmanuel and Le Bras, Laurence). La Librairie de Guy Debord – Strategie. Paris: L’Echappee, Nov. 2018.  528 p.; ill.; 13 x 19 cm. Green cover with text in yellow.

I wanted to share the news that, on 21 Nov. 2018, L’Echappee will be publishing Debord’s reading notes cards on the topic of Strategy. To date, one had to travel to Paris and the French National Library to access these notes, which are categorized by subject. I very much look forward to this publication- more below

https://www.lechappee.org/collections/la-librairie-de-guy-debord
